- A quarter of India’s population faces the effects of a severe drought – potable water shortages, inadequate sanitation, disrupted livelihoods (agriculture & livestock) & education. Women & girls are especially impacted.
- The annual opium harvest in the Helmand province of Afghanistan generates not only income for the Taliban who impose local opium & Islamic (10%) taxes but provides new recruits from the nearly 15,000 poppy field workers in need of a job. Just in time for the fighting season. Endless cycle.
