DGI Brief - July 5, 2016

Good morning, all. Today's top 5 global issues news are about #Iraq #Israel #Thailand #UK and #space #NASA

- IRAQ: Baghdad residents are furious at the government’s failure to provide security, they chased Prime Minister al-Abadi from visiting the bomb site with rocks & shoes. The ‘unified plan’ is to help coordinate the army, federal & local police & government-sanctioned Shiite militias who all provide security in Baghdad, manning checkpoints & responding to situations… see the problem here?

- ISRAEL: Live bullets in response to stones – yet another hurdle on the way to a peace-negotiating table. It’s riddled with pain, unfairness & stubbornness.

- THAILAND: The new constitution drafted by the current military government is viewed by many as undemocratic, but critics are prohibited from campaigning against the proposal by laws that could imprison them for up to 10 years! Still there are many courageous opposition movements. How could we help Thais to have be able to cast a fully informed vote in the upcoming referendum?

- Three major UK insurers, asset managers & commercial property funds have temporarily suspended trading to prevent investors nervous about Brexit from pulling money out. M&G Investment, Aviva Investors, Standard Life. Others firms are expected to follow.

- After 5-year, 2.7bn km journey, NASA’s Juno spacecraft began a 20-month science mission, orbiting around Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. Science rules!
